Kenya: Airtel Moving to 4G Network By Year-End
Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi says the telco has since grown its 3G network from 35 percent to 75 percent population coverage at the moment, giving more room for further investments.
“Data is very essential in our industry and we are investing heavily to ensure that our capabilities in data and internet are substantially improved,” Youssefi said.
“We are working closely with the stakeholders, regulators and the government to ensure that we bring 4G network as soon as possible, hopefully this year to Kenya,” he added. He says Airtel is ready to compete in the data market adding that these investments are all aimed at giving customer satisfaction.
Youssefi made the assurance during a meeting on Wednesday morning when the company hosted an executive breakfast which brought together over 20 leading business leaders from the financial and manufacturing sectors in Kenya.
The meeting led by the CEO under the theme “building partnerships for the future” brought together the leaders to review and explore innovative solutions driven by technology within the telecommunication space that will help businesses growth in the country and across Africa.
In attendance, were Barclays Kenya CEO Jeremy Awori, Gulf African Bank Managing Director Abdalla Abdulkhalik, Citibank East Africa CEO Joy-Ann Wainaina, Kenafric Industries Limited CEO Bharat Shah, Jubilee Insurance General Manager, Pensions David Ogega, FEP Holdings Group C.O.O Maurice Korir and Savannah Cement Head of Sales and Marketing Eric Masindet.
Others were Co-operative Bank of Kenya Head of Government and Public Sector Banking Silvance Nono and Chandaria Industries Group CEO and Director Darshan Chandaria.
“The company is riding on the wave of the economy to provide best products and services in support of business in Kenya and across Africa,” Youssefi said.
Airtel Africa Vice President and Group Head, Airtel Business Deji Ilesanmi also used the occasion to share examples of best practices where Airtel has collaborated with various organizations across Africa urging the business leaders to take advantage of Airtel’s geographical footprint in Africa to take their businesses forward.
“This forum is helpful as it gives us an opportunity to collectively share ideas on disruptive communication solutions that our sectors require to help drive businesses,” he said.
The meeting was led by Airtel Business (Enterprise Business Unit) which is responsible for developing end to end technology and telecommunication solutions to the business market comprising of corporates, government and public sector, SMEs and global markets.
Customers can choose from Airtel’s bouquet of business mobility voice and data services, bundled and broadband plans, fixed network services, managed and hosted services, business to business (B2B) and consumer to business (C2B) payment solutions through Airtel Money.
