Viettel Global claims 26m subs; 1H16 international revenues reach USD494m
In operational terms, Viettel reports that its Tanzanian unit Halotel has passed the two million-subscriber mark, as a result of its rollout to 95% of the country, including remote and mountainous areas where 1,800 villages received mobile coverage for the first time.
In Cameroon meanwhile, Nexttel, which started operations in September 2014, now has over 2.5 million subscribers. The cellco reported sales of XAF21 billion (USD35.9 million) for the first half of this year, up 54% year-on-year. Movitel, Viettel’s business in Mozambique, reported revenues of USD33 million in the first half of 2016, claiming 5.6 million subscribers as of end-June.
While no subscriber figures were disclosed, the group notes that Viettel Burundi (Lumitel) reportedly generated sales of BIF31 billion (USD18.26 million) in the second quarter of 2016. Read the full article in Telegeography here:
