Kenyan government launches crime-reporting app
26 January 2017
In a bid to give the fight against crimes in the country a fillip, the Kenyan government has launched a smartphone app, which will be available on Android, iOS and Windows Phones.
The app will enable the public to report and document crimes as they happen, according to Attorney General Githu Muigai at a media briefing in Nairobi earlier today.
Data collected by the app will be analyzed and verified by the National Crime Research Center (NCRC), and then sent to information security agencies in real time.
“The mobile phone crime reporting system will boost the fight against crime by leveraging on the large number of Kenyans with smart phones,” Muigai said.
He added, “The NCRC will use the information to map out crime hotspots in the country. The information gathered will help members of the public to remain vigilant towards crime.”
The app provides an anonymous and safe place for citizens to report crimes – they usually dread using traditional means for obvious reasons; this has slowed down the fight against crimes.
