Free VPNI connections now available at South Africa’s Internet Exchanges
10 February 2017
INX-ZA has announced that networks interconnecting through South Africa’s Internet Exchanges can now create free Virtual Private Network Interconnects to other networks.
The free VPNI connections are available at all data centres linked to the Johannesburg Internet Exchange (JINX), Cape Town Internet Exchange (CINX), and Durban Internet Exchange (DINX).
The public Internet exchanges in these cities allow domestic users to interconnect, improving connections and granting more efficient access to online services.
“Finding cheaper ways to enable networks to interconnect will help grow the domestic Internet by keeping costs low. This benefits the SA Internet user and the wider country,” said INX-ZA Manager Nishal Goburdhan.
Virtual Private Network Interconnects (VPNIs) allow peering networks to reuse their existing peering ports to connect to other partners.
“Peers are already cabled-up and running existing services, so it literally just takes a few minutes for us to enable the service,” said Goburdhan.
There are no bandwidth or usage restrictions placed on the service.
