Econet owed USD25m by state-run operators

Zimbabwe’s mobile market leader Econet Wireless is owed more than USD25 million in interconnect fees by state-owned operators NetOne and TelOne, according to a report from The Sunday Mail.
The cellco says that a previous interconnect debt of USD60 million was offset against its USD137 million licence renewal fee in 2013, so the latest sum has been run up since then.
Econet has complained that it is the only telco in the country which has paid its licence renewal fees and settled all interconnect payments, while state-backed operators NetOne, TelOne and Telecel are allowed to run up debts and pay licence fees in instalments.
