This is one of many tweets by South African Anita Ronge, aka DJ DuchAz, that has had Black South Africans on Twitter up in arms. In case you’re wondering why—she’s white.
When I first heard about this, I laughed really hard because I thought it was a genuine joke—because, you know, how does a bonafide white woman claim to be black? But after reading her tweets myself, I realized she was being quite serious. Now, no one is taking away from the fact that she grew up in the kasi or township, areas of residence designated to black people during Apartheid. Read the full article on Okayafrica here:
