Orange Group-owned, incumbent Senegalese telco Sonatel has announced the launch of a fibre-optic broadband network this week. Senegal’s first fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service has been initially deployed in the areas of Keur Gorgui and Dakar-Plateau in capital city Dakar, with Sonatel indicating that it will gradually roll out the fibre network in other districts of the capital. The new, faster broadband service will offer customers data connection speeds of up to 200Mbps and will be available as part of multi-play packages.

Airtel Madagascar, the local Malagasy unit of India-based Bharti Airtel, has launched a 4G LTE mobile network, writes Agence Ecofin. Despite being Madagascar’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, Airtel is the last of the three major cellcos to launch 4G, after Telecom Malagasy in June 2015 and Orange in March 2017.
