Katie Hopkins has been detained in a South African airport and had her passport confiscated by the country's authorities after allegedly being accused of “spreading racial hatred”.

The controversial media personality is currently in South Africa to film a documentary about "the violent, ethnic cleansing of white farmers by armed, black gangs".

In a video filmed in the airport that she posted on her Twitter account, Hopkins said: “My passport has been marked for spreading racial hatred here in South Africa, for trying to find out and tell the story of white farmers being murdered.

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen. They’ve taken my passport away from me but it doesn’t look at the present time I’m going to be allowed to board my flight and leave the country.” Read the full article on Buzz.ie here.
