ICT Authority replaces acting chief executive after two years

The ICT Authority has replaced acting Chief Executive Robert Mugo with John Sergon who will also hold the post in the same capacity until the agency makes a substantive appointment. Mr Sergon, who takes over from Mr Mugo, was until his new appointment a director of at the Ministry of ICT.

Mr Mugo, who had been acting since January 2016, will remain the director in charge of shared services at the authority.

Four senior managers at the authority were suspended last year after an internal audit revealed that they had syphoned Sh160 million from an internship programme launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The audit report indicated that the four officials withdrew the cash from the authority’s Citi Bank accounts between January and July last year. The case was handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for further inquiry.
