28 September 2018

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MoPT) in Liberia has revealed plans to build a national network for education and research, Agence Ecofin reports, and to that end has discussed its proposals with representatives of the University of Liberia, Digital Liberia and Electronic Government, plus the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The ultimate goal it says is ‘to provide academic institutions with quality internet connectivity, to which various learners and teachers can connect at low cost to access knowledge’.

Commenting on the plans, USAID representative Victoria Cooper said the agency was willing to provide technical expertise and financial assistance to Liberia for the project which she notes could have a positive impact on developing the skills of young Liberians.
