Telecoms

The Togo First newspaper reports that pan-African telecoms group Liquid Telecom, which is part of the Mauritius-based, Zimbabwe-owned Econet Global group, is considering setting up shop in the country and could soon become Togo’s fourth ISP after Togo Telecom, Group Vivendi Africa (GVA) and TEOLIS. Last week, Liquid Telecom used the Africa CEO Forum, held in Kigali and attended by a Togolese delegation led by President Gnassingbe, to announce its interest in entering the West African nation.

On 20 March 2019 Algeria’s Authority for Regulation of Post and Electronic Communications (Autorite de Regulation de la Poste et des Communications Electroniques, ARPCE) selected state-backed mobile operator Mobilis – part of Algerie Telecom – as the universal telecom service provider for 750 low-population localities and coverage of 178 roads, following a call for competitive tenders issued on 18 February 2019, Agence Ecofin reported.
