Sub-Saharan Africa Huawei ICT Competition Reveals Its Final Winners

TechInAfrica – Sub-Saharan Africa Huawei ICT Competition has come to an end with positive results. The event has brought Nigeria and Tanzania as the first winner while Kenyan and Angolan teams sit on the second place.

The competition was participated by students from more than 100 universities in Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Mauritius, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Coming in the second place, Kenyan teams consisted of five male students and one female student. They previously had participated in the regional finals and qualified for competing in the national levels in September this year.

The Kenyan teams were represented by Richard Wanjohi, Maraguri Mwai, and Zipporah Wachira will later visit Shenzhen, China on May 24th – May 27th, 2019 to participate in the global finals. They will become a Kenyan team and compete with the other 39 teams from other different countries.

According to Huawei, the teams will gather in the event to share the latest information of technology and industry trends while at the same time getting theoretical and practical insights.

Su Shuqi, Head of ICT Academy at Huawei Technologies Kenya Company Limited, said: “The Kenyan Team took Huawei Certified ICT Professional course and had an intense 10-day training before departure to Johannesburg. We are very proud of team Kenya.”

Meanwhile, Xue Man, Vice President of Huawei said, “Huawei understands the value of a good talent ecosystem which is the foundation of a smart future. This ICT Competition is part of our innovative initiative to support that and promote ICT skills. We believe that this event will inspire more students in Africa to develop an interest in ICT by providing a world-class stage to showcase and consolidate the vital ICT resources necessary for Africa’s development.”

Commenting on their achievement, Zipporah Wachira, remarked: “As one of the winners of the Huawei ICT competition 2018-2019, I would recommend this program to anyone who has interest in the field of networking or any other computer related field. I am a testimony, the journey is amazing, and you are assured of a world-class ICT experience.”
