Globacom Nigeria gets 6 Million New Subscribers, 9mobile the big loser – NCC Report

According to the latest telecoms industry report published by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Friday, Globacom has gained the highest number of subscribers over the past year, as it added 6.15 million new subscribers to its network.
This took its active subscriber base up from 45,603,638 that was recorded in January 2019, to 51,755,561 recorded at the end of January 2020.
On the other hand, Airtel Nigeria gained 5.03 million new customers during the year of review. It reached a new subscriber base of 49,997,710 from last year’s 44,970,973, while MTN welcomed 4.03 million additional subscribers resulting in a total of 70,693,058 GSM users on its network. Its figure as at January 2019, had been 66,665,378.
The fourth telco, 9mobile, was the only operator that lost subscribers during the past year as 3.23 customers left its network. The telco’s subscriber base dropped from 16,385,317 to 13,157,543 in the period between January 2019 to January 2020.
The NCC report also revealed that the total number of GSM subscribers in Nigeria had increased to 185,742,016 in January 2020, from last year’s 173,625,306. This is an additional 12,116,710 new subscribers and growth of seven percent year-on-year.
