Microsoft, Vodacom South Africa launch online education platform

Microsoft South Africa and Vodacom Business have partnered on a Connected Digital Education initiative, based on the rollout of a Connected Digital Education Platform for enable remote learning with affordable connectivity. The platform will provide learners with access to tools, apps and resources (including cloud-based Office 365 for Education and Microsoft Teams for Education), while educators can use the resource to facilitate virtual classes via chat or voice using a Sim card where access to Microsoft Teams is provided for free.

 

The initiative will allow users to continue learning regardless of where they are or what device they are using, the companies said. All students and institutions will have access to the platform, which is accessible via PC, mobile phone and tablet devices. Vodacom will bring preferential data rates to the party, allowing access to the Microsoft tools.

 

The pandemic has given the move to digital education a new impetus and demonstrated the need to roll it out widely, the companies said.
