LAGOS MOVES AGAINST INDISCRIMINATE ERECTION OF TELECOM MASTS

Telecoms

Worried  by the indiscriminate activities of telecom operators in the state, the Lagos State Government through its newly established Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) has given private telecom operators (PTOs) and GSM operators a two week ultimatum to furnish it with information about their operations especially as it concerns erection of masts in different parts of the state or risk severe sanction.

LASIMRA threatened to switch off any telecom operator(s) who refuse to comply with the provisions of the law setting up the agency after the expiration of the ultimatum. The General Manager (GM) of LASIMRA, Joe Igbokwe, who handed down the warning at a media briefing in Lagos Tuesday, also directed concerned operators to forward to the agency the list of all their equipment as well as names of manufacturers or suppliers of such equipment. They are also expected within the time frame to register their names or that of their local representatives, addresses and contacts of persons appointed by them at a fee.
