BHARTI INTERESTED IN GABON LICENCE
Indian telco Bharti is in talks with Gabon’s government to discuss the possibility of entering the country’s telecoms sector, either through the purchase of a stake in state-run incumbent operator Gabon Telecom, or by obtaining a network operating licence.
Sunil Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Group, met with senior officials including Paul Biyoghe, Gabon’s Minister of Commerce. A 51% stake in Gabon Telecom is up for grabs to international corporate and institutional investors. Under the state’s privatisation offer, Telecom will be granted a five-year fixed line monopoly as part of a new 15-year operating licence.
