The Internet Society is a not-for-profit membership organisation founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet related standards, education, and policy. It is dedicated to ensuring the open development, evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of people throughout the world. ISOC is the organisational home of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and other IETF-related bodies who together play a critical role in ensuring that the Internet developsin a stable and open manner. For over 13 years ISOC has run international network training programs for developing countries and these have played a vital role in setting up the Internet connections and networks in virtually every country connecting to the Internet during this time.
ISOC will be opening an office in Africa to work more closely with the community and to be able to respond better to local needs. This office willbe the focal point for all ISOC activities in the region related to education and capacity building member and chapter relations policy. For this office ISOC is looking for an independent contractor to serve as our Regional Manager for Africa.
The tasks of the Regional Manager will be to represent ISOC in the regionand to help deepen and strengthen ISOC's regional and global presence inthe areas of education, membership and policy.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB Assist in the management of the daily operations of the AVU telecommunications infrastructure that include satellite, terrestrial networks and ICT systems to ensure their smooth operation as well as participate in technical development, research, planning, design and implementation, management and monitoring of ICT systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in installation, maintenance, service and troubleshooting of telecommunications equipment and systems Supporting new and existing enterprise-wide voice, data, and video telecommunications systems; Participate in planning, design, implementation and integration of new and planned telecommunication systems; Provide technical support, help desk and training in telecommunication systems to AVU Partner Institutions (PI); Interface with network providers to monitor and evaluate network performance. Conduct site visits and evaluations to appraise state of technology development at AVU PIs; Assist in the development and ensure adherence to telecommunications standards and policies across the AVU network; Assist with hardware and software procurement and maintenance, evaluate technology vendors, ensuring adherence to AVU standards; Establish and maintain regular contact with AVU PIs IT staff for the purpose of sharing experiences and best practices; Remain abreast of the latest IT/ telecommunications developments in the industry;
