ANGONET'S MALANJE PROJECT HELD UP BY FIVE MONTH DELAY ON NETWORK EQUIPMENT DELIVERY
Angonet, a project to set up community cyber-centres in northern Angola, is experiencing long delays due to a lack of suitable telecoms infrastructure. The project in the province of Malanje, begun by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the first quarter of 2005, has stalled. An expected delivery of network equipment is now five months late. Angonet aims to spread the use of information technologies in the region. In its first phase, a VSAT system was set up in Huambo province, and once the delays in Malanje are overcome, further ICT infrastructure rollouts are planned in Bie, Cabinda, Uije and Zaire.
