In its drive to be more responsive to the needs of its members and play a better role in the development of the country, The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, GCCI, launched a new database management system and website at the Senegambia Beach Hotel.

Speaking at the launching, chief executive of GCCI, Mam Cherno Jallow said the development of the database system came as a result of cooperation between the GCCI and Co-logix Gambia co ltd.

Mr. Jallow added that the data base management system is based on the latest version of the "lotus domino." Papa Yusupha Njie, president of ITAG described ICT as a wider field and therefore collaboration is needed for the attainment of its importance in administering business and development of the country. "The exposure of business in The Gambia need closer collaboration with ICT operators," he said.

Mr. Njie emphasise the need for partnership between the public and private sector to ensure collective sharing and processing of data and information. "The idea to capture data and information is to develop ICT programme in the context that people can have better understanding of it," he said.

Ruddier Backer, CEO of Co-logix in introducing the system said the lotus domino is one of the best data management systems worldwide.

Co-logix is a joint venture between Gambian and German business partners who are interested in broaden the Gambia's Information Communication and Technology, ICT.

Mr. Backer said the system was developed in 1976 for the USA military.

"Today, it is used by the US government, Germany and many government worldwide. This is the most secured system as far as data management and processing is concern," he said.

He said the database system has a powerful method of data tracking with the offered system.
