ERICSSON CLINCHES USD46 MILLION CDMA DEAL WITH NITEL

Fixed-line operator, Nitel has awarded Ericsson a deal worth USD46 million for the expansion of its fixed-wireless CDMA 2000 1X network.

Under the terms of the contract, Ericsson will be supplying Nitel with the infrastructure and services it needs to expand its fixed-wireless network in the north-west and south-west regions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This expansion will enable Nitel to rollout services to customers waiting for fixed-wireless, voice and data connectivity, thereby expanding its base of customers and increasing revenues.

Ericsson's CDMA 2000 1X solution is designed to provide operators with a flexible, cost-effective and future-proof platform for voice and data service. Many operators in emerging markets are turning to CDMA as a fixed-wireless solution for the local loop to contain capital expenditure and, at the same time, make it more affordable to deploy fixed-lines to a broader population.
