A Ugandan ICT firm - AB Computer Solutions in partnership with Singapore-based Eternal Power Holdings have launched onto the Ugandan market the very first Pen-Drive MP3 player.

The Eternal Power Pen Drive MP3 is a portable USB Flash drive. The flash drive also doubles as a recorder and MP3 music player. It can be used to directly play back stored music files in MP1, 2,3, WMA, WAV, ASF and WMV formats. The pen drive comes in capacities of 128 Megabytes, 256 Megabytes, 512 Megabytes and 1 Gigabyte.

Other features include a seven equaliser mode, seven multi-colour back light, 13 languages, lyrics display, a USB extension lead for easy plug in and out, a neck strap, CD-USB Driver and a battery.

Mr Bernard Lwigale, the Managing Director, AB Computer Solutions - the sole representative of Eternal Power products in Africa, said the pen drive plays back MP3 music with high quality sound for up to 10 hrs on a single AAA battery.

Mr Andre Lim, the General Manager of Eternal Power Holdings, the manufacturers, said "the device gives you value for money. It is made of high quality chipset, durable and highly reliable switches." He said unlike ordinary flash disks, the "MP3 flash disk adds life to you and your data."

The Eternal Power MP3 pen drives, he said, have been subjected to several quality tests like shock and vibration, ageing and high and low temperature tests and can therefore reliably store data for longer periods.

Lwigale said the device, compares well in price with other devices on the market. The 128MB costs Shs140,000, the 256MB goes for Shs175,000, the 512MB for Shs230,000 while the 1GB goes for Shs360,000.

He said AB Computer Solutions is seeking for distributors, agents, wholesalers and retailers for Africa. "We are pleased to be associated with the real manufacturers. This means that we can guarantee all our products," he said.
