Glenayre Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: GEMS), a global leader in providing next-generation messaging solutions and enhanced services, announced on Tuesday that mobile operator MTN has gone live with Glenayre's Versera Video Mail application as part of their 3G rollout in South Africa. With the launch of Video Mail, MTN joins only a handful of worldwide mobile telecommunications operators to offer this next-generation messaging application.

A large step beyond picture-based messaging, Versera Video Mail ensures all video telephony calls are answered and allows MTN to launch an attractive, high bandwidth service that capitalizes on their 3G technology investment and satisfies demanding subscribers.

Versera Video Mail is an application enabled by Glenayre's Versera Intelligent Communications Environment (Versera ICE). MTN South Africa has implemented Versera ICE(TM) to provide its subscribers not only with video mail capability, but also with advanced messaging capabilities like voice mail, Versera Missed Call Notification and Versera My Services, an Internet portal application that allows subscribers to have full control of their messaging features online.

With Versera Video Mail, users can explore a new level of personalization by recording video greetings as an alternative to voice-only greetings and leaving video mail messages for friends, family and colleagues. Versera Video Mail works just like voice mail, but enhances the user experience by leveraging the advanced capabilities of 3G. Now instead of receiving a voice-only greeting, callers can also see the subscriber asking them to leave their message.
