MAURITIUS' TELECOM PLUS SUFFERS THREE SERIOUS OUTAGES

Internet

The internet service of incumbent telco Mauritius Telecom's ISP subsidiary Telecom Plus has suffered three serious outages since last Wednesday. These outages have been frustrating for both companies and individuals wanting to access the web. Engineers have been working hard to find the source of the problem but do not believe that it is hackers. A Mauritius Telecom spokesperson said that:"There is a phobia about hacking at the moment but we don't think these outages are connected with hacking."

This possibility surfaced during the first of the outages which took place between 13.00 and 22.00 hours on Wednesday. Most Mauritian ISPs use MT to send data but these outages have only affected Telecom Plus.

"it is possible that a hacker has infiltrated the Domain Name Server in order to interefere with its opoerations. But how then is it possible that all other ISPs have not been affected?", said a source who works in a local IT firm.
