Sonatel described itself as running an Internet Exchange Point for the sub-region and Nitel has plans for an IXP to underpin the recent launch of its wholesale bandwidth operation. However neither seem to have completely understood what an IXP and the importance of working with ISPs. As one wise old cynic told us:”Telkom runs the South African Internet Exchange (SAIX) but just because it’s called that doesn’t mean that’s actually what it is.”
