First Bank of Nigeria Plc claims to be the clear leader in the online real time banking services in Nigeria, and indeed, the West Africa sub-region with the coming on stream of 30 additional branches/agencies on its online, realtime banking platform. The new development brings to 251, the number of branches and agencies on its wide area network spreading across the country.

With this expanding one-branch banking system powered by the Finacle Banking application software, customers of the bank can now access their accounts and conduct banking transactions from any of the 251 locations that are online.

The new entrants are branches in Bassa, Malumfashi, Kaura Namoda, Nsukka; Agbor; Awka, Aba Alaoji, Ede, Owo, Shagamu, Ughelli, Uromi, Ambrose Alli University, Ikot Abasi, Araromi Obu, Ogbere, Ankpan, Oron, Ijebu Ijesha, Saki, Ajaokuta, Oba Market and the National Assembly in Abuja. In Lagos, the branches in Jibowu, Investment House (Lagos Island), Epe, Iddo, Daleko and Agege Abattoir also made the list.

The bank started the deployment of the new Finacle banking application, which powers the processes, on June 17, 2002, with 66 locations in that year, 34 locations in 2003 and 101 locations in 2004. Within this period also, 20 of the bank's agencies and cash locations were also hooked to the network.

The massive deployment of cutting-edge technology is a direct fall-out of the bank's re-engineering project which has seen to the re-vitalisation of the bank's processes and people over the years.
