* NBK INTRODUCES MOBILE BANKING

The National Bank of Kenya (NBK) last week launched a mobile phone banking service for checking credit balances and utility bill payments.

Managing director Reuben Marambii said the service, known as SIM-ple Banking, would allow customers to access and query their accounts at their convenience using their mobile phones.

He said: "The system is based on a WAP TX application based on the use of mobile phone short message service to send and receive messages between the bank and the subscriber.

They can also access information on salary credits and produce payments to all its customers or to a particular segment of customers.

"SIM-ple banking offers access to 23 functions, more than three times the number offered by other banks," Mr Marambii said. The Nation
