Running Computers recently completed a major end-to-end hardware rollout at corporate communications company, Ince PTY Ltd, partnering with Channel Data for the implementation of a new backup infrastructure.

Leveraging its Open Distribution partnership with Channel Data, Running Computers was able to implement an enterprise-class backup solution that included EMC’s LEGATO NetWorker Business Edition software as well an Overland Storage Powerloader tape library at Ince’s offices in Johannesburg.

The backup solution’s primary function is to backup data from Ince’s newly installed Intel-based BAAN ERP (enterprise resource planning) system. "We required products that could get the job done - both LEGATO and Overland Storage offer the technology and established functionality needed to successfully and securely backup critical data from ERP systems," David McKenna, technical director at Running Computers.

"We also have a strong relationship with Channel Data, which is why we felt they could provide us with not only the products through their Open Distribution Programme but the skills and support to successfully implement the solution."

As an Intel Premier Provider, Running Computers felt confident to propose EMC’s LEGATO NetWorker software, as it is used by Intel. Additionally, Ince had already (and successfully) been using Overland for its daily backup purposes, which is why it made sense to propose the Overland Storage Powerloader.

"We were pleased that Running Computers had recommended our combination backup solution, which is indeed geared to plug into sites easily and cost effectively," comments Amit Parbhucharan, technology marketing director at Channel Data.

"We have received great feedback of the overall success and performance of the newly implemented LEGATO/Overland backup solution sourced from us by Running Computers for Ince and pleased to state that our VAR and their customer are both satisfied with the solution," adds Parbhucharan.

Through Channel Data’s Open Distribution Channel Programme, resellers such as Running Computers can develop a pipeline of opportunities and sales within the local marketplace by providing selected "out of box" products - without high demands on accreditations.

The programme also enables reseller partners to become empowered, offering installation services with training and guidance provided by Channel Data as well as extended support and maintenance, which not only ensure improved customer service-levels, but presents additional opportunities for margin retention and skills growth.
