MINISTER WILL ANNOUNCE NEW PRIVATE INVESTOR FOR GHANA TELECOM WITHIN MONTHS

Mergers, Acquisitions and Financial Results

Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Albert Kan Dapaah, says that the country’s national operator Ghana Telecom (GT) will get a new private investor within the next few months.

Speaking at the sixth Industry and Technology Exhibition (INDUTECH) in Accra, the minister said that an announcement would be made soon after the dispute with Telecom Malaysia, which owns 30% of GT, had been resolved. The state intends to sell shares to a private investor and the public.

Kan Dapaah said the ‘government does not intend to absorb the 30% shares owned by the Malaysian company and is not in the position to own a greater part of the stake in GT because the growth and development of ICT should be championed by the private sector.’
