PIRATING OF LINES COSTS ALGÉRIE TÉLÉCOM 600 MILLION DINARS A YEAR
Brahim Ouaret, PDG of Algérie Télécom told ENTV that pirated lines are costing the company 600 million dinars a year in lost revenues. It now has 3 million fixed line customers with a staggering waiting list of a further 811,000 people. On the mobile side of its business it has 1.2 million mobile subscribers. The cost of its adsl broadband service has gone down from 8,000 DA a month to 1,900. He also pointed out that he was introducing wi-fi technology into the network and that it was costing less than a tenth of the price of copper cable. Overall its turnover per year has gone up to 13 billion dinars and that from 1 March will have introduced per second billing.
