With a year-on-year growth rate of 48.8% and a 17.4% market share in the notebook sector, IDC ranked Acer second among South Africa’s leading PC vendors for 2004.

Preliminary data released by the international IT market intelligence and advisory company also shows that Acer has once again confirmed its top ranking in the EMEA region. The company posted a 62.2% annual growth rate during the 2004 financial year and secured a 17.5% market share in a global computer market that showed an average growth of 18.9% in EMEA during the period. Additionally, Acer has firmly entrenched its third place on the EMEA region global PC market rankings by achieving an annual growth rate of 53.7% during 2004.

Acer South Africa country manager, David Drummond says the company’s consistent growth in a challenging economic climate is undoubtedly owed to its ongoing commitment to research and design. “The development of advanced yet easy-to-use technological solutions, commitment to sustaining them through focused marketing activities and the best distribution channels are the main factors contributing to these achievements”.

“Efficiency in the EMEA market is further promoted by a streamlined and flexible organisation, qualities that enable us to move swiftly towards our goal of becoming one of the world’s IT reference brands. South Africa contributes to this objective through its investment in customer care facilities. Our dedication to customer service, together with innovations such as a call centre, repair laboratories, in-country access to spare parts and a unique fetch, repair and return service, has clearly distinguished us in the marketplace.”

“In a world on the verge of the so-called digital convergence, where all digital functions centre increasingly around the PC, Acer has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to respond to the challenge by offering comprehensive and innovative product lines and solutions,” Drummonds continues. “Consequently, we are already considered leaders in the delivery of solutions that meet any requirement in our certified and highly professional consulting and service provider channel.”
