SUPERCOM WINS USD2.5M AFRICAN ID CARD CONTRACT
Smart card and electronic ID solutions provider Supercom last week announced that it has entered into an agreement with an unnamed African government agency to provide an end-to-end national identification system valued at USD2.5 million. The solution will be deployed in stages beginning in the fourth quarter of 2004 and continuing into 2005.
The comprehensive hardware and software-based solution will consist of a national population ID registry together with a document issuance system. The identification card itself will utilize visible and invisible security features, including the encoded fingerprints of the cardholder. The system provides a cost-effective way to collect positive identification data from an entire population, record images, documents and biometrics automatically in central databases and identification documents.
