CAR'S GERTRUDE KITEMBO COMES TO KINSHASA TO PROTEST SIGNAL INTERFERENCE
The Central African Republic's Minister of Post and Telecommunications Gertrude Kitembo recently visted Kinshasa to protest about mobile signal interference from Celtel and Vodacom in parts of her country. According to the Minister, both operators coverage from equipment installed in DRC covers the whole of the Central African Republic, which sits to the North of the DRC. The Minister said that this issue touched directly upon national sovereignty. Two solutions were possible. Either the companies restricted their coverage within the borders of DRC or the companies came and set up in the Central African Republic. There are currently two mobile operators in CAR - Télécel-Centrafrique and Nationic - and a fixed line incumbent, Socatel.
