ETHIOPIA TELECOMS CORPORATION TO INSTALL 600,000 FIXED LINES BY ITSELF
For the first time in its history, the Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) is getting ready to undertake the installation of 600,000 fixed telephone lines by its own staff.
The corporation has already carried out the plan for the project, which will be presented to the corporation's management personnel and board members after three weeks, source disclosed to The Daily Monitor.
According to our source, the corporation has so far been used to outsource such projects to international contracts, and the move to undertake the job by itself this time would save it millions of dollars.
The Corporation has already concluded the first phase procurement of the cables, which had been supplied by an Israeli company called Hess for 12 million dollars. The project is scheduled to be completed in one year and ETC would hire about 400 professionals and workers on contract basis for the job, according to our sources.
