- France Télécom et Thuraya Télécom have provisionally been awarded GMPCS mobile licences in Algeria.
- A Kenyan Court last week blocked a decision by Information Minister Raphael Tuju cancelling the award of a licence to Econet Wireless as Kenya's third mobile phone provider. The court allowed Econet Wireless to file a motion challenging his decision within 21 days, opening a new phase in the battle for the remaining portion of Kenya's cellphone network.
- Cameroon's Foreign Affairs Committee met to discuss an amendement bill to allow the country to accept the changes in the corporate structure of international satellite provider Intelsat.
- Glo Gateway, the international gateway operator of Nigeria’s second national operator (SNO) Globacom, says it has set up an interconnectivity link with UK-based BT Group. Under the contract, Glo Gateway will be able to terminate calls directly to and from the UK, in turn enabling it to offer a range of value added services to its customers.
