EGYPT'S EAAT SIGNS TO RUN LE2.5 MILLION US TECH GRANT PROGRAMME

  The Egyptian Association for Advanced Technologies (EAAT) has signed an agreement with the US-based General Dynamics Company, the US IT aid advisor to Egypt, to run L.E. 2.5 million of the American grant.

According to Somaya Abul Fetouh, executive manager of the association, the EAAT will receive the amount in quarterly installments over three years period. The grant is allocated to help integrate the two associations organizing the IT sector in Egypt: The Egyptian Association for Software Applications, and the Egyptian Association for Advanced Technologies into one organization called ETTESAL. The two associations and the government have approved the proposal.

The grant also aims to boost the marketing initiatives of the Egyptian IT sector through participation in regional events and the development of an extensive electronic portal including substantial information on local IT companies. The preliminary activity plan of the ETTESAL association's includes holding training courses on management and marketing skills for local companies' executives.

The USAID views the creation of strong institutions representing the private sector as a pillar for the transformation to free market economy; hence it establishes strong relationships with such institutions through support for their activities.
