PERIBIT AND EMC PARTNER TO INCREASE DATA REPLICATION AND BACKUP PERFORMANCE ON WAN NETWORKS

Computing

Peribit Networks, the global vendor of WAN bandwidth optimisation products, has joined EMC's NAS (Network Attached Storage) Partner Programme designed to enable joint customers to deploy data replication and remote backups across their existing wide area network links with greater flexibility, efficiency and reliability.

The program was created by EMC, a leader in information storage and management, to help enterprises accelerate the implementation of new NAS-based solutions to maximise application availability and uptime.

Central to the programme are Peribit Sequence Reducers that significantly reduce the replication and backup traffic across the WAN, prioritize this traffic by time of day and accelerate flows by overcoming the impact of latency and packet loss.

According to Alan Rehbock, GM of the Peribit division at Source Consulting - the South African distributor of Peribit products - many multi-sited organisations in South Africa are faced with disaster recovery, data replication and backup challenges for remote branches due to low speed WAN links.

"Now, Peribit is able to provide effective WAN optimisation capabilities for EMC customers. This means customers will have much greater freedom to choose the time and frequency of backups and replications over their existing networks without compromising the performance of high priority applications," he says."

The NAS Partner Programme builds on EMC's already extensive interoperability efforts to develop and deliver products and solutions that work seamlessly with third-party products.

Rehbok says that Peribit's participation in the programme follows the successful testing of its products with EMC NAS platforms - and the realisation of the benefits of joint customer support.

"These include service cooperation, the establishment of joint escalation procedures, and rapid mutual response to provide customers with the highest levels of NAS-based application support," he says.

This announcement closely follows the recent introduction of Peribit's PeriSphere architecture and new SR-100 and Sequence Mirror- 500 products that provide IT departments with the integrated features needed to meet key business initiatives by enabling application performance, data centre consolidation, disaster recovery and backup, and regulatory compliance.

Key elements of the PeriSphere architecture incorporate compression, sequence caching, latency reduction, bandwidth management, path optimisation and visibility tools.
