SENEGAL'S SONATEL TARGETS WIRELESS INTERNET MARKET GAP
Sonatel Multimedia, the ISP arm of Senegal's incumbent last week launched a wi-fi service for those needing access to the internet on the move. The service is provided by an antenna attached to an ADSL modem. It is targeted at hotels, restaurants and companies. There are three offers that make up the Sentoo WiFi branded service. For the first two services, the prices are negotiated with the client and therefore not transparent. However according to Samba Sene,l D-G of Sonatel Multimedia, third offer is being sold at a promotional price of FCFA99,000 TTC a month.
Although there have been concerns about the security of wireless networks, Sene pointed to solutions that would deal with this problem, which among others included an authentication key (Wired Equivalent Privacy) that offered the same security as for a wired network.
