CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE'S SOTELCO OPENS FOR BUSINESS IN EWO
Congo-Brazzaville's incumbent telco Sotelco will soon be offering services in Ewo, the capital of the "department" Cuvette-Ouest from the beginning of August. The Admistrateur-General of Sotelco René Serge Blanchard Oba announced this news last week after a visit to Ewo to inspect work on the new earth station there.
Congo's President Denis Sassou Nguesso has already given a severe warning to public contractors who take take state money and do not finish contracts on time. Société Okongo Marcel (SOM) who are responsible for this project have been working between 19-24 hours a day to complete the project on time. The new earth station will deliver digital fixed-line calling, GSM internet and broadcast signals. Sotelco has plans to build similar earth stations in other departments, notably Impfondo, Ouesso, Owando, Dolisie, Sibiti, Madingou, Kinkala et Djambala. However all of these plans depend on state funding.
