TANZANIA'S RURAL TELECOMS FUND - MINISTRY 'CURRENTLY WORKING ON'
The Tanzanian government plans to establish a rural telecommunications fund that will expeditespeed up the extension of telecommunication services in rural areas. Answering a question in Parliament last week, the Minister for Communications and Transport, Professor Mark Mwandosya, said a Chilean consultancy firm, Apoyo, had already completed its work and forwarded its report to the government.
"The Ministry is currently working on the report with a view to establishing sources of funding for the fund, its management, priority indicators and legal issues," he said. He said many areas would have easy access to telecommunication facilities when the fund became operational. Mohammed Ali (Wingwi-CCM) had wanted to know when the Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL) network would reach his constituency.
