OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE CENTRE OPENS IN KAMPALA

The African Open software community in Uganda is to set up a regional training centre in Kampala to train up to 200 students a year with the help of Dutch NGO IICD. The East African Centre for Open software is to be opened later this month at Bukoto, a suburb of Kampala. Its focus will be regional with students expected to come from as far as Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. The Chair of the new organisation Prof. Victor Van Reyswound of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi. It will take Euros140,000sh330m to establish the centre, part of which has come from the International Institute for Communication for Development IICD. New Vision
