SURVEY SHOWS HOW MUCH BENINESE DIASPORA MAKES USE OF ONLINE MEDIA

Digital Content

According to a survey carried out on the diaspora between August and October last year by the Research Group on the African Media (GREMA), 37% of Beninese living abroad read the online editions of Beninese papers on a daily basis. Le Matinal (which was read by 74% of respondents) was followed by L’Araignée and Le Républicain. These are the three daily papers most often mentioned for the quality of their online editions and the frequency of updating. Beninese radio and television come in well behind these online editions.

Although GREMA’s study shows the affection with which expatriates hold their online national press, they are both unhappy with its design and the speed with which it is updated. The study claims that:"Over 30% of expatriate Beninese are prepared to back a project to provide financial support for the daily updating and the improvement of the design quality of the Internet edition of Beninese dailies".
