NITEL PROMISING TO ROLL OUT N13BN OPTICAL FIBRE TRANSMISSION THIS YEAR
NITEL is to roll out its USD100ml(N13billion) National Optic Fibre transmission system later this year, according to its Managing Director, Rein Zwolsman. He said that the underground cable will link the North and the South of the country as well as major towns. "The optical fibre transmission will be the backbone for the telecommunication industry in Nigeria," Zwolsman declared.
He said the cable will eliminate the use of the microwave repeater stations which have limited capacity and are becoming obsolete. Zwolsman said the cable system will extend from Lagos to Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi and other large towns, adding that it is more reliable and has a higher transmission capacity.
