NITEL CALLS TIME ON NON-PAYERS WITH LAUNCH OF PRE-PAID PLATFORM
Nigerian telecommunications Ltd (NITEL) has shut its doors to thousands of its customers owing about N43 billion as it goes over to its pre-paid platform launched this month. Deputy General Manager, Public Affairs of NITEL, Tayo Ekundayo, said that the debtors would not be allowed to convert to the pre-paid system, expected to be in use from the second week of February. "Our goal is to force the debtors to pay up. No debtor will be allowed to migrate to the new system, without clearing the outstanding debt," he explained.
Ekundayo said that 10 cities, including Port Harcourt, Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Enugu had been selected for the pilot scheme of the project. "Trial - run of the scheme has already commenced in Abuja, Kano and Lagos," he stated, adding: "we have been on the project since last March."
