- The Kenyan regulator CCK launched a Sh17 million study to work out measures for increasing the number of people with access to telephones last week. Speaking at the launch Transport and Communications Permanent Secretary, Gerishon Ikiara, said said the June deadline by which the second fixed telephone service operator is expected to start competing with Telkom Kenya will not be extended.
- The year of liberalisation ahead: Sonatel’s monpoly ends on July 2004 and the Tunisian data communications market will be opened to competition this year.
- Mauritian mobile phone company Emtel announced that it has gained its ISO 9001 certification last week.
