- Egyptian mobile phone operator MobiNil has signed up three million subscribers, a company source told Reuters on Tuesday. The source did not know if the figure of three million subscribers referred to active subscribers or not.

- Zambian phone service provider, Telecel, has recorded about 11,000 new subscribers in the past four weeks following the launch of the nation-wide Mazda draw last month.

- MTN Uganda, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the construction of the Eastern Africa submarine system (EASSy) project. This project is expected to lead to the laying of a submarine fibre optic cable system on the Eastern Africa coast. The EASSy cable will be the first optic fibre connectivity between East Africa and the global optic fibre network.
