The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) has identified four US companies that are to be licensed to establish call and data centres. The four, whose names were not readily available are from Kenya, South Africa, India and the United States of America (USA).

John Musajjakaawa, the UIA information, communication and technology (ICT) officer said in an interview over the weekend, Uganda’s competitiveness level in the ICT sector had risen due to the educated workforce.

"UIA has therefore identified some of the largest ICT companies from each of the four countries of Kenya, South Africa, India and the US to be licensed in order to establish call and data centres here," Musajjakaawa said. He said Uganda still needed investors in the establishment of the e-commerce, especially in data processing.
