TUNISIA HOSTS ICANN MEETING THIS WEEK IN CARTHAGE
The international conference of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers (ICANN) will be held in Carthage, Tunisia, 27-31 October 2003. More than 500 Internet domain name experts will take part in the ICANN meetings hosted by the Tunisian Ministry of the Communication Technologies and Transportation and the Tunisian Internet Agency (ATI).
The forthcoming Tunis event aims at intensifying international cooperation in the field of communication and Internet technologies. It is organized in the context of the preliminary activities program of the International Summit of the Information Society. The first stage of the Summit will be held in Geneva, Switzerland (December 2003) while the second stage will be held in Tunis in 2005.
Simultaneously with the ICANN International Conference, a number of international organizations specialized in Internet activities will hold their meetings and assemblies in Tunisia. They include the meetings of the Internet Society (ISOC), the Government Advisory Committee (GAC) , the African Top Level Domain (AFTLD), the Arabic Internet Names Consortium (AINC) and the Multilingual Internet Names Consortium (MINC).
