Telkom Business Integration Services is demonstrating its Oracle outsourcing solution with partner Sun Microsystems at the annual South African Oracle User Group (SAOUG) conference. The conference takes place this week int Sun City from 6-8 October.According to Duncan Peruch, account manager at Sun Microsystems SA, the company provides the hardware to support Telkom’s outsourced offering.

"As an approved hardware platform for Oracle applications, Sun has partnered with Telkom to provide a complete outsourced solution for businesses looking to improve their costs by leveraging economies of scale," explains Peruch.

He says Oracle is working on delivering the outsourced model as an option that allows businesses focus on their core competencies. "Oracle knows its technology best, and with focused partners like Telkom BIS, can produce a higher level of service and performance at a better price," he says. In the United States, Oracle provides the full outsourcing service itself. In SA, however, it has elected to leverage the expertise of partners to act as service providers. Telkom BIS is one of these partners.

Andre Schoeman, product manager: managed hosting services for Telkom BIS says the organisation will offers the local business community infrastructure, hardware and network services based on the Oracle software suite - Oracle9i Database, Oracle9i Application Server, and Oracle E-Business Suite."This development is significant for Telkom as it brings many new markets within our reach," he adds.
