TELECOM NAMIBIA SEEKS TO ENTER THE ANGOLAN MARKET
Telecom Namibia’s Managing director, Frans Ndoroma, has just confirmed that negotiations with its Angolan counterparts to operate a fixed line business in that country, are ongoing. "And the potential is very good " he said.
Ndoroma, in addition, said the negotiations have reached an advanced point and by all indications the Namibian communications operator will sign a shareholding agreement with an Angolan telecommunication operator before the end of the year.
Whilst not in a position to reveal more information about the likelihood and technicality of the envisaged agreement, Ndoroma said Telecom will provide the expertise and form a strategic partnership with the Angolan telecommunication company.
The Angolan company holds the communication license for the entire country, but as starting points, the the major cities of Luanda followed by Benguela in Benguela province will be targeted. Meanwhile Ndoroma said "all is not lost yet" nor are they "writing off the whole process" of bidding for the second fixed line operator in South Africa.
