- The first African root name server was installed at the South African internet exchange, JINX this week.
- The Lagos IXP looks set to launch in September 2003. AfrISPA has set up an African Internet Exchange Point Task Force and intends to increase the number of IXPs to 30 (from the current figure of 9) over the next 3 years.
- Makerere University’s Internet project has been boosted with a USD77,000 (about sh150m) grant from Uganda Telecom. Dr. F. Tusubira, the University’s director of information and communication technology said on Friday, the money would be used for setting up a computer laboratory to help students’, "access the global information resources via the Internet."
